Main Street Monticello Florida was established in 1997 to revitalize downtown Monticello through cultural activities that draw tourists and small business support. Our purpose now includes Jefferson County. Our current programs include celebrations of special events and holidays. Main Street operates a \u201cArtisans and Growers Market\u201d once a month and maintain a record of available business properties in the county.
\nWe work closely with our city and county governments and partner with community non-profits to present events and support the events of other local organizations. We present a Speaker Series free to the public and publish a newsletter. A quarterly \u201cMixer\u201d brings together members and prospective members where community leaders explain their activities and up-coming events. We employ a part-time Program Manager and accomplish our work with 10-15 dedicated volunteers. This project and others will relate to and become a local companion to a Smithsonian Traveling Exhibit we will sponsor in Monticello January 11, 2014 to February 22, 2014.<\/p>\n

\n<\/a>The Panhandle Archaeological Society at Tallahassee (PAST) represents the panhandle region of Florida around Tallahassee. The Panhandle Archaeological Society at Tallahassee (PAST) is a not-for-profit group dedicated to promoting the exploration and preservation of archaeological resources in the Florida panhandle region. PAST is a chapter of the Florida Anthropological Society, and recognized by the State of Florida as a not-for-profit corporation.\u00a0We invite anybody in the Tallahassee area who is interested in Archaeology or Anthropology to join. Meetings are scheduled for the first Tuesday of every month in the B. Calvin Jones Center for Archaeology at the\u00a0Governor Martin House. The benefits of joining include discounts on fieldtrips, volunteer opportunities, and an open forum to communicate with other professional and amateur anthropologists and archaeologists about topics and projects in the North West Florida area.
